Cross border payments
Your client owes Canadian tax. They have no Canadian bank account.
Remitian invoices in USD, converts at institutional rates, pays the CRA directly, and returns the confirmation number. No Canadian bank account anywhere in the chain.
The problem
A foreign client owes Canadian non resident tax. Opening a Canadian bank account takes weeks and often fails for non residents.
Paying by wire or cheque means converting to Canadian dollars in advance, at whatever rate the client's bank offers, then sending a certified cheque. Confirmation the payment was applied can take months, sometimes up to a year.
So the firm steps in. The client wires money to the firm, and the firm pays the CRA on their behalf.
That solves the client's problem and creates three of yours.
Your bank account becomes a payment rail. Client funds move through your operating account, across a border, on a recurring basis.
Someone senior is doing it. Partners and CFOs are processing six figure wires themselves. That is not a delegation problem, it is a control problem.
Nobody has assessed the obligations. Receiving client funds and remitting them abroad can carry money services business style duties. Most firms have never asked the question. And with confirmation potentially a year out, the firm carries an unresolved position on the client's behalf for that entire period.
Who this is for
Firms with recurring Regulation 105 or Part XIII withholding obligations. Cross border wealth managers coordinating on behalf of clients who never log in anywhere. Firms handling Section 116 dispositions of Canadian property. Any practice where a partner is personally wiring client money to the CRA.

FAQ
Does my client need a Canadian bank account?
No. That is the point. They wire USD to us and we handle the conversion and the remittance.
What rate do you use?
Institutional rates, quoted on the invoice as a firm CAD inclusive figure before any money moves.
How does my client prove the CRA was paid?
We return the CRA confirmation number with a complete record for the file.
Do you handle payments into the US?
Remitian executes US federal, state, and local tax payments today as part of the core platform. This cross border service, where the payer sits outside the country, currently covers payments into Canada.
